Oops #1

Very nice wood for body, but too
short for Jazzmaster.
I haven't buidt anything since June, and I have forgot one important thing. Thinking before cutting.
We cut wood to all my school mates, who are mostly building Telecasters. It is much faster to cut more pieces at the same time and it is ok, if all pieces are same size. Well, now comes the oops #1. Body of Jazzmaster is bigger than Tele, so my pieces were too short. Bad mistake! Shit!
It was frustraiting. My pieces was very nice, no branches and wood texture was very nice, but pieces are too short. One thing I have already learned before about luthiery is that you can always start over and do it again. Like this time. And so many times before.
Now I remembered that important thing about luthiery and process. Right way is NOT just measure and cut, but measure, THINK and cut.
Here is new body. This time measuring
and thinking is done before cutting
And it is better to do those two parts two or three times before cutting.
This time, however, this was not a major accident. It takes only an hour to make a new blank. It was not very big thing to cut new pieces, plane and glue them. I can use those smaller pieces later anyway when I decide what to do with them.
I think this was just good reminder. Measure and think, measure and think, and one more time measure and think and THEN cut.
BTW, today I met "grand old man of Finnish luthiery", Dr. Rauno Nieminen. He is retired, but he visited us today, and promised to buy "pullakahvit" (coffee and bun) if anyone of us make any mistake that he had not seen before. That is real challenge. :D
