| Some of the essential tools for luthier |
After three days I have noticed some interesting things at school. They don't teach us just building instruments. We talked much about philosophy of luthiery, history of luthiery and future of luthiery. We talked about customer service and about entrepreneurship. We talked about myths, customer psychology and strange things what and how customers and people in general think about musical instruments. Why some vintage instruments are so prized and are they worth the money? When Leo Fender made Stratocaster it shoud be reasonable prized tool for musicians that can be played some time, then it break and musician buy new one. He didn't know that those guitars that was made in 50's will be more prized than new cars. Are they so good? Maybe not, but they are Stratocasters from 50's and that is enought. I you feel good when you play it and you are ready to pay that, just do it. It's worth it if you feel like it.
I found all that very interesting. I have work in advertising business many years, and I know that the way people act is often nonsense. It is not based on reason but on emotion. It is especially emphasized in musical instruments.
I really like the way how we learn things in IKATA. They really don't promise us a rose garden. Their way is realistic. I like that.
P.S. Today I try our Finnish student medical care. We have a nurse at school. I went there becouse of sore troat, cough and I have lost my voice and I can't speak. She didn't do anything but tell me to go see doctor. But I got free condoms. That was nice and positive thinking. :D
